THE Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) has sent a 20-strong medical team to Afghanistan.
The team, comprising medical and nursing officers, will be deployed to the field hospital in Tarin Kowt, the provincial capital of Oruzgan, for three months from Nov.
A second 20-man team will replace the first team in Feb and serve in the field hospital until May, said a Ministry of Defence statement on Monday.
The deployment is part of Singapore's overall contribution to the multinational reconstruction efforts in Afghanistan.
The SAF medical team will provide primary health care and ward capability at the field hospital in support of the Australian and Dutch forces deployed in Oruzgan.
This is the SAF's second deployment to Afghanistan this year.
Earlier this year, the SAF deployed a six-man construction engineering team to Bamiyan province to supervise the construction of the Regional Health Training Centre (RHTC) and a security wall at a university dormitory.
