THE National Environment Agency (NEA) is urging condominiums and private apartments to provide recycling bins in their estates, following a new ruling that made it mandatory to do so from Nov 1.
The advisory comes after calls from residents for recycling receptacles to be provided in their estates.
The Management Council for such residences can decide on the type of recycling bins suitable for their estate, such as size and type of bins, or providing a separate chute for recyclables.
Presently, only 38 per cent of households in condominiums and private apartments have recycling bins in their estates, according to an NEA advisory on Saturday.
Last Month, NEA sent out letters to the management councils of all condominiums to notify them of the new requirement and to encourage them to start preparation work to provide their residents with receptacles for recycling.
The agency also sent Notices this month to 400 condominium estates with more than 50 units each. They have been given six months to comply with the requirement.
NEA would be sending Notices to the other condominiums in phases over the next few months.
