6 fined for corruption
By Elena Chong, Courts Correspondent
FIVE men and a woman were fined between $5,000 and $6,000 on Thursday for corruptly giving or agreeing to give bribes to a then senior accounts manager of MediaCorp Enterprises in return for being chosen as lucky draw prize winners.

The principal offender, Teh Gim Leng, 28, has been dealt with. He was jailed for three months and ordered to pay a penalty of $5,900 in July.

Two of the men, Goh Soon Yong, 33, and Ong Eng Kong, 34, were each fined $6,000.

The others who were each fined $5,000 were Yee Nuok Sze, 26, Thomas Gwee Boon Wee, 33, Ng Sze Siong, 31, and Lim Boon Hwee, 32.

Between Oct 6 and 31 last year, Teh had corruptly agreed to accept or accepted bribes from various lucky draw winners for choosing them in Shell's free fuel for a year promotion campaign.

Shell engaged the services of Maxus Communications to run the campaign.

Maxus in turn engaged MediaCorp Enterprises to run it by having daily draws by Teh.

Similar cases against five others have been adjourned to Nov 20, and a sixth to Dec 11 for a pre-trial hearing.

The six who pleaded guilty could have been fined up to $100,000 and/or jailed for up to five years.
