POLICE commended a Certis Cisco security officer on Tuesday for foiling a robbery attempt on a bank on Monday.

Lance Corporal (LCP) Rosli Mohamad Sa'ad was on duty at a United Overseas Bank (UOB) branch at City Plaza along Geylang Road, when he noticed a man behaving suspiciously.

The man approached a bank teller and threatened to activate a bomb in a paper bag unless he filled up a plastic bag with cash.

When the teller left to inform the branch manager about what was happening, LCP Rosli hit the man on the arm and wrestled him to the ground. Five UOB male employees came forward to help pin him down until police arrived.

The man, who is in his mid 40s, has been arrested by police and was charged in court on Tuesday for attempted robbery, which carries a maximum punishment of seven years in jail. If convicted, he will also be liable to caning.

Commander of Bedok Police Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Lim Kok Thai commended the bravery, vigilance and alertness displayed by LCP Rosli and the bank staff in assisting in the arrest.
