Gravedigging: A dying trade
Only 9 of these cemetery workers left, and youngest is already 45
By April Chong
WHEN Mr Abdul Rahman Mohamad started out as a gravedigger three decades ago at the Choa Chu Kang Cemetery, he had more than 30 colleagues. Now, the 45-year-old is just one of nine left.

He took on the job after leaving school at 16, following in his father's footsteps.

In fact, more than half of his colleagues are in their family trade. Almost all also hailed from the former Kampong Berih, off Lim Chu Kang Road, which was demolished in the 1980s.

Read April Chong's full story in Monday's edition of The Straits Times.
