GOOD news for Singapore Airlines (SIA) and SilkAir's business and economy travellers.
They will now pay lower fuel surcharges for tickets issued on or after Friday across all routes.
For example, the current surcharge for flights between Singapore and South East Asian cities is US$36 (S$53.20). This will be cut to US$32 for business travellers and US$28 for those in economy class.
The cut is the second by SIA and its subsidiary since September.
SIA said in a statement on Tuesday that this is in line with the recent sustained fall in jet fuel price.
Besides the length of the journey, the surcharge levels will from now also take into account the class of travel.
This is to fairly impute fuel related costs, since the space occupied and weight utilised differs from the respective classes of travel, said SIA.
It added that it would constantly review jet fuel prices which remain volatile.
The carrier said fuel surcharges only partially offset the increased expenditure on jet fuel, despite the recent easing of prices.
