A MALAYSIAN studying in the United States allegedly swiped US$5.3 million (S$7.9 million) by defrauding users of a popular website selling textbooks and then wiring the cash they sent to two bank accounts in Malaysia and Singapore.
According to a US Department of Justice (DOJ) press statement, Nicholas Baptist, 34, who started his studies at Purdue University in Indiana in 2001, faces 12 charges of wire fraud.
Federal Bureau of Investigation and Homeland Security Department investigators jointly probing the case are apparently seeking the help of the authorities here to uncover his account.
