A WALL that 'speaks' might be joining four panels of the Berlin Wall at the Bedok Reservoir Park.
This idea is part of the winning architectural design - submitted by a team of two architectural students and a designer - in a contest to find a facility to house the Wall in the park.
Mr Sim Jie Han, Ms Ou Yingjun, both 25, and Ms Yuen Yu Fen, 23, won the $40,000 top prize.
Next to the panels of the Berlin Wall at the park, they suggest building a lower and longer wall that will be filled with designs inspired by the iconic wall, done by European and Asian artists.
There will be a glass case over this wall, where members of the public can doodle their thoughts on, and lend a voice to the Berlin Wall.
The trio's design builds on the winning concept in the first phase of the competition, which sought to find ways to incorporate the Wall in the park.
The winner of Phase 1 of the contest, Ngee Ann Polytechnic student Alvin Lee, had proposed surrounding the four panels of the Berlin Wall with 10 other panels, which international artists would fill with designs over time.
On what prompted them to come up with their design, Mr Sim, a Masters student in architecture at the National University of Singapore (NUS), said: 'The challenge was to make sure people come back to the Wall repeatedly and we felt that incorporating an element of participation at the site would encourage interaction.'
The three friends, who met as undergraduate architecture students at NUS, said they chose to participate because they could not resist the challenge to come up with a design that would bring people to the reservoir to interact with the Wall.
