THE Education Ministry has deferred the construction of indoor sports halls for 25 schools originally scheduled for completion by end 2009 to end 2010 following the Government's decision to hold back certain public building projects.

But the remaining 206 schools will get the indoor sports halls in phases between 2010 and 2014, said Education Minister Ng Eng Hen in his written reply to a question from MP Dr Fatimah Lateef (Marine Parade GRC) in Parliament on Monday.

Dr Ng said such halls have been built in 12 schools and 80 schools are on track to have them completed by early 2010.

The ministry plans to provide all primary and secondary schools with an indoor sports hall by 2014.
