TWO buddies who were heading back after a late night supper died in a horrific car crash along Guillemard Road on Thursday night.
Their car skidded near Wing Fong Mansion, a condominium off Lorongs 14 and 12 Geylang at 11.45 pm and hit a tree. The impact of the crash split the car into two, throwing the front and back portions almost three metres apart.
The two, identified as Mr Kerk Teck Guan, a car salesman, and Mr Ng Wei Liang, a sales executive at Courts, both 26, suffered severe multiple injuries and were rushed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where they were pronounced dead at 1 am.
They were close friends who had known each other for more than 10 years, since their school days.
The red Subaru WRX was the leading car in a convoy of three that was heading back from supper on Thursday night.
According to friends in the cars behind who witnessed the accident, Mr Kern had swerved to avoid hitting a cyclist and ended up crashing the car into a tree.
The car enthusiast, whom friends described as someone who loved cars so much he didn't mind spending money to spruce up his car, had bought the Subaru WRX just over two years ago.
His friend, Mr Ng also drove a Subaru WRX, but had taken a lift from Mr Kern that night as his car was in the workshop after an accident three weeks ago. He was supposed to have picked up his car from the workshop on Monday.
Mr Kerk leaves behind a wife, and Mr Ng a wife and a five-year-old daughter.
