Fined for theft, trespass
By Elena Chong, Courts Correspondent

A MAN was fined a total of $5,000 on Thursday for stealing a Blackberry phone and trespassing into a hotel.

Lee Kah Hui, 31, a financial consultant, admitted stealing the $800 phone from Miss Nicole Lee Yin Yong, 33, owner of Jurlique, at Wheelock Place on March 9.

He was at the shop waiting for his Japanese girlfriend doing her facial when he stole the Blackberry at the counter.

When Miss Lee found her Blackberry missing, she alerted a security staff who detained Lee at a neighbouring shop with the stolen item.

Lee also admitted to two counts of criminal trespass at Furama Riverfront Hotel at Havelock Road last Sept 21.

He was drunk when he decided to follow a group of Asiana airlines flight crew to their rooms on the seventh level.

There, he noticed a suitcase blocking one of the rooms and entered it to cause annoyance to a 23-year old Korean stewardess.

During investigation, he told police in his statement that he had followed the stewardesses to find out if they provided sexual services.

He could have been jailed for up to three years and/or fined for theft.

The maximum penalty for criminal trespass is a jail term of up to three months or a fine of up to $500 or both on each charge.
