Cancer research centre opens
By Grace Chua
THE National University of Singapore's $256 million cancer research centre is now open for business.

Currently hosted at NUS' Centre for Life Sciences, the Cancer Research Centre of Excellence will focus on cancer stem cells, cancer biology, epigenetics, experimental therapeutics and genomic oncology.

Its 125-strong research staff, who will double in size, will study cancers predominant in Asians, such as nasopharyngeal cancer and lung cancer.

The centre's targets by 2015 include attracting talent and collaborations, training students and scholars, improving patient care, and producing quality research, said its director, Professor Daniel Tenen, at the centre's opening ceremony on Wednesday.
