MR PETER Ong, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Trade and Industry will take on a concurrent appointment as the Second Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, said a statement from the Public Service Division of the Prime Minister's Office on Monday.

Mr Ong, 47, graduated with a Bachelor of Economics (Honours) degree from the University of Adelaide. A Colombo Plan Scholar, he also holds a Masters in Business Administration degree from Stanford University.

He began his career in the Administrative Service in 1986 in the then Ministry of Communications and Information. Mr Ong also held other key appointments in the Civil Service College, Ministry of Home Affairs and Temasek Holdings.

In 2001, Mr Ong was appointed Second Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence.

A year later, he became the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Transport before becoming the Permanent Secretary of Trade and Industry in 2005.

Mr Teo Ming Kian remains as the Permanent Secretary, Finance as well as Permanent Secretary, National Research and Development, Prime Minister's Office.
