SPEED is of the essence when trying to keep pace with the latest happenings in contemporary Chinese art.
Thrust into the limelight of the global arts scene at the turn of the 21st century, this movement has left art-lovers on the edge of their seats, anticipating the next big thing in Chinese art since the political pop and cynical realism movements of the 1990s.
Accelerate: Chinese Contemporary Art, an exhibition now on at the Singapore Art Museum, will help art aficionados put a finger on the pulse of what is new.
The exhibition, conceptualised in May and put together in four months by Beijing's National Art Museum of China and the Singapore Art Museum (SAM), showcases 26 works from 21 Chinese artists, most of which were created within the last two years.
The artists represented in the show include established names such as Xu Bing and Lin Tianmiao, as well as emerging artists such as Chang Genghua.
