On the scale of 1 to 10, Singapore probably rates a six when it comes to courtesy and kindness, says Mr Koh. He feels that we can definitely do better, and has already mapped out a strategy and identified KPIs to help the little red dot a kinder, gentler nation. -- ST PHOTO DESMOND LIM
DID you do anything kind today?
Mr Koh Poh Tiong, 61, doesn't expect his first question for this interview to be such a personal one.
Q&A with 'Mr Kindness'
TURNING Singaporeans into kinder, gentler people who return food trays is not unlike selling beer.
You need to set KPIs and map out a solid marketing strategy, says Mr Koh Poh Tiong, Chief Executive of Asia Pacific Breweries, who is also the new chairman of the Singapore Kindness Movement.
But the chief executive officer of Asia Pacific Breweries is not flummoxed.
'I gave a lift to my neighbour's son and dropped him off at his school,' he proffers readily.
'I saved him a 15-minute walk out to the main road, as well as his bus fare,' he adds, looking chuffed.
The trim and distinguished-looking corporate honcho has obviously not forgotten the values he picked up as a boy scout almost half a century ago.
'We would tie a knot on our handkerchief to remind ourselves to do a good deed each day. You could only untie it after you'd done someone a good turn,' he recalls.
