FROM next year, all junior colleges will have a single intake of students in Year 1, with students starting school on Feb 2.

The O level results, which are currently released in late January, will be released in early January; and the school posting results will be out by end January.

The single intake system will prevent the 'churning' of students, when students switch JCs after receiving the O level results, said a statement from the Ministry of Education on Tuesday.

JCs used to have two intakes which resulted in students in the second intake having difficulty in catching up with syllabus in March.

'A single intake system will facilitate a stronger educational programming in these schools where all students would start their course of study together,' said the MOE.
