THE Chief of Navy Operations of the United States Navy (USN), Admiral Gary Roughead, was given the Meritorious Service Medal (Military) by Singapore on Monday.
He received the prestigious military award, Pingat Jasa Gemilang (Tentera), from Defence Minister Teo Chee Hean at a ceremony at the Ministry of Defence.
The award is in recognition of his significant role in forging closer bilateral ties between the USN and the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN), said a Mindef statement.
Both navies engage in a broad range of bilateral and multilateral activities such as the annual Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training that involve missile-firings and warfare drills.
The two navies also interact under the ambit of the Western Pacific Naval Symposium.
