FIREWORKS lit the night sky, bringing Singapore's 43rd birthday bash at the Marina Bay to a crescendo on Saturday night.
Even before the extravaganza on the floating platform unfolded at about 5.15pm, Marina Bay was already a sea of red as spectators started streaming in, some as early as 10 am.
Those who did not get tickets to the three-hour show got the next best seats - at the Esplandade Waterfront Promenade and Esplanade Bridge.
Even those outside the parade grounds were togged in red and came prepared with picnic baskets and party poppers to celebrate Singapore's independence day.
Although grey clouds and a slight drizzle threatened to rain out the parade, clear skies finally broke through before the festivities began.
Back at the floating platform, ecstatic cheers greeted the parade motivators and emcees as they burst onto the scene after 5pm and had everyone waving the Singapore flag or the nifty inflatable hand from the funpacks.
Spectators thronging the waterfront areas outside had a good eyeful of the wakeboarders, power boats and stunt kites skimming across the Marina Bay during the bay show.
The Red Lions - a perennial favourite - descended on the Marina Promenade, just mere metres away from the cheering crowd.
Another highlight of the evening was the aerial display by the Black Knights - six F-16C Fighting Falcons made their pirouttes and daredevil passes over Marina Bay.
The floating platform was transformed into a riot of colours during the show segment as performers dressed in vibrant hues twirled or showed their kungfu prowess in a series of performances during the show segment.
