SINGAPOREANS love going underwater, judging from the result of the People's Choice Award at the eight-day Singapore Garden Festival (SGF) which ended last Friday.
Seeking Shangri-La, an underwater garden by Singaporean Peter Cheok of Far East Flora, was voted the top favourite by visitors. It garnered 49 per cent from over 3,000 votes.
The garden shows what may happen to the mythical paradise of Shangri-La if it is drowned by melting glaciers. Plants such as sedums and cacti were planted to resemble corals.
Mr Cheok also won a Best of Show and a Gold award in the Fantasy Gardens category.
Visitors voted for their favourite garden via SMS, from July 25 to Aug 1. Each visitor was allowed to cast one vote.
A draw was conducted on Friday and one lucky visitor, Ms Lee Soo Boon, won a trip to the Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show next year.
