First Singaporean to face terror charges in Indonesia
FAJAR Taslim, 35, was one of 10 terror suspects nabbed in South Sumatra in a series of raids about six months ago.
Yesterday, he faced charges under an anti-terrorism law, the first Singaporean to face such offences in Indonesia. If convicted, he could face the death penalty.
According to the charges read out in court, the men had planned a cafe attack in Bukit Tinggi, Sumatra, but aborted it after finding Muslim women dining there. They also plotted to kill two Christian priests in Jakarta in August 2006 but abandoned the plan after learning they lived too close to a market.
