The Stuttgart University economics student said he trains every day, mostly running up the Stuttgart television tower, which is 217m tall, including its TV antenna. Swissotel The Stamford stands at 226m.
He said this run was tough as it was his first time here and he was unfamiliar with the staircase: On the 42nd floor, participants had to get to a different stairwell in order to continue the rest of the climb to the helipad on the 73rd storey.
He said: 'I've done so many races, but this is the first time the staircase changes halfway, so it changed my rhythm.
'Now I know what the staircase is like, I think I can do even better next year.'
