
SUJONO Kusni is the latest person convicted in connection with an illegal casino that operated in the Senegal consulate on East Coast Road.
More than 20 people involved in the venture have been dealt with by the authorities.
Kusni, a former honorary consul, admitted yesterday to allowing the consulate to be used as a gambling den in October and November 2006. He said he made over $23,000 in the operation.
In addition, he admitted to eight charges under the Immigration Act while 13 others were considered during his sentencing.
The Straits Times went undercover to investigate the gambling den in November 2006 and saw high rollers in action.
About 30 people were arrested during a police raid on Nov 3 that year. Over $100,000 in cash was seized.
Among those who have been punished were Kusni's three accomplices, two of whom were each sentenced to four weeks' jail and fined $40,000. Another got six weeks and a $40,000 fine.
