JAKARTA - AT LEAST nine people were killed and 41 were injured, many of them foreigners, when bombs exploded in two luxury hotels in central Jakarta on Friday, police said.
National police spokesman Nanan Soekarna said 14 foreigners were injured but a list of the wounded at a nearby hospital included the names of 18 foreigners.
'The number killed has reached nine people. Eight died at the scene and one died in the hospital,' Mr Soekarna said.
'There are 41 injured including 14 foreigners.' He said seven people were killed when a bomb exploded in an underground floor of the Marriott hotel, including a New Zealand businessman who died later of his wounds in hospital.
Two others were killed in the blast at the second-storey restaurant at the Ritz Carlton.
At least two Australians, a South Korean man, a Dutch man and a Japanese national were among the foreigners who were injured. -- AFP
