JAKARTA - A 6.0 magnitude quake hit western Indonesia's Bengkulu province Saturday, but there were no immediate reports of any casualties or damage, officials said.

The quake struck at 4.21 pm (5.21pm Singapore time) with an epicentre 72 kilometres southwest of the town of Bintuhan, off the coast of Sumatra Island, the Jakarta Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said.

It struck at a depth of 28 kilometres but no tsunami warning was issued.

'We felt the tremor here. However, there is no reported damage or victims yet,' Bintuhan police officer Awaludin, who only uses one name, said.
