SEMARANG (Indonesia) - OFFICIALS say an Indonesian military plane was forced to land in a river after engine failure. No one was hurt.
Navy spokesman Iskandar Sitompul said the small aircraft was on a routine training flight on Tuesday when the pilot and co-pilot noticed a strange noise coming from the engine.
They made an emergency landing in a shallow river in Semarang, a city on Java island.
Indonesia's military has an aging fleet of aircraft, and accidents are not uncommon. But the plane that went down Tuesday was just two years old. Sitompul said it experienced problems soon after taking off from Semarang's airport. -- AP
