BERLIN - THAI premier Abhisit Vejjajiva, who will represent Asean at this week's G-20 economic crisis summit, urged rich countries to roll out more stimulus measures, in an interview published on Tuesday.

Mr Abhisit told German business daily Handelsblatt that multi-billion-dollar packages rolled out by the United States, Europe and Japan to jumpstart their economies were insufficient to drag the global economy out of its 'depression'.

'We would like to see more in any case, even though major stimulus packages have already been announced,' Mr Abhisit said.

'I would like to see certain goals laid out (at the London summit Thursday) and a concrete discussion about coordinating stimulus measures.'

Mr Abhisit said the meeting of leaders of the Group of 20 most industrialised and developing nations must focus first and foremost on getting the world out of the crisis and restoring faith in financial markets.

'That is why the G20 countries must coordinate their fiscal and monetary policy as closely as possible,' he said.

At the London gathering Mr Arbhisit will be representing the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) grouping Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam as well as Thailand.

A senior German official said on Tuesday that G-20 leaders would not discuss further stimulus packages at the summit. -- AFP
