SHAH ALAM (Malaysia) - THE POLICE have refuted newspaper reports on Wednesday that 'China Dolls' were involved in prostitution in Pulau Ketam, off Port Klang.
While not ruling out the possibility that some female tourists could be involved in relationships with local men, Deputy Selangor police chief SAC I Datuk Jamshah Mustapa said most of the women were genuine toruists and not members of a vice syndicate.
'The police have conducted investigations and found that most female tourists arrived here on social visit passes.
'Our investigations have revealed that there is no syndicate masterminding prostitution activities in the island,' he said in a statement on Wednesday.
Nevertheless, Jamshah gave an assurance that the police would continue to monitor all premises in Pulau Ketam to ensure no immoral activity occured.
According to reports in a Chinese and English daily dated March 13 and 14, respectively, a syndicate had transformed a village in Pulau Ketam into a prostitution centre. -- Bernama
