Flood evacuees return home
KOTA BARU - THE flood situation in Kelantan was improving on Monday with hot weather since noon allowing more than 200 evacuees to return home.

By Monday evening, there were only 598 people at two flood relief centres, compared with the 810 people at 11 relief centres in Pasir Mas, Rantau Panjang, Kuala Krai, Machang and Kota Baru in the morning.

A state flood operations room spokesman said the remaining evacuees comprised 591 people in Pasir Mas and seven in Kota Baru.

He said Jalan Gua Musang-Lojing at KM85, which was closed following a landslide on Sunday, was now open to light vehicles which would be allowed to pass along the road shoulder.

Workers from the Public Works Department (PWD) are still repairing the road stretch, expected to be completed in three days.

Jalan Kota Baru-Pantai Cahaya Bulan, which was previously inundated, is now passable to all vehicles.

Several roads in Pasir Mas are still closed to motorists. They are Jalan Rantau Panjang to Panglima Bayu, Jalan Pohon Tanjung-Meranti at KM10, Jalan Kampung Lewong-Lubok Stol, Kampung Binjai and Jalan Jejulok Kampung Jambu, which are under 0.3 to 0.4 metres of water.

Although the situation in Kelantan is improving, the water levels in Sungai Kelantan at Kusial and Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang are still at the danger mark, while waters at the other five rivers are above the alert level. -- BERNAMA
