SHAH ALAM (SELANGOR): The majority of Bukit Antarabangsa residents will be allowed to return to their homes in the landslide-hit area in Kuala Lumpur.

Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim told reporters here yesterday that the decision was based on preliminary findings by the Public Works Department, Public Works Institute and Geological Department. The landslide on Dec 6 had killed four and destroyed 14 houses.

Tan Sri Khalid said he had directed state officials to study the findings and visit the area to see which houses would have to be abandoned. He said the state government would refer to their report to see what help it could offer residents.

He said he would visit the site tomorrow, and then announce the list of houses that would have to be vacated and the help the state government would offer.

Some 3,000 residents who were evacuated from their homes after the landslide had been waiting for the findings.

Apparently, the findings did not contain full details such as the cause of the landslide or the current status of nearby slopes. However, it did list the homes deemed unsafe for occupation.
