BANGKOK - THAI Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat issued a bomb warning on Tuesday to revellers at a full moon festival amid ongoing violence at an anti-government rally site.
Mr Somchai told the public to avoid large gatherings during Wednesday's Loy Krathong, a colourful festival of floating water lanterns celebrated throughout Thailand.
Three small bombs have detonated in recent days in the grounds of the prime minister's offices, where protesters have been camped out since August demanding the government step down.
Police on Monday arrested two of their supporters allegedly carrying a cache of weapons.
'I am really concerned about tomorrow night as people celebrate Loy Krathong. If possible, please avoid places where a large number of people are gathered,' Mr Somchai said.
He said he was concerned 'especially after police confiscated bombs recently'.
Thais celebrate Loy Krathong each year as they ask for forgiveness from the water goddess Ganges.
Meanwhile, Mr Somchai refused to comment on reports that his brother-in-law, ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra, was planning to address his Thai supporters again from exile overseas.
Thaksin, whose visa for Britain was revoked on the weekend, is reportedly in China and planning to speak to his loyal fans by telephone on November 23. -- AFP
