NEW YORK - US STOCKS ended in negative territory on Tuesday in choppy trading as investors sifted a slew of economic data for signs that a recovery could be taking root from the severe recession.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 107.69 points (1.25 per cent) to 8,504.44 at the market close.
The tech-heavy Nasdaq fell 20.20 points (1.11 per cent) to 1,796.18 and the broad-market Standard & Poor's 500 index retreated 11.77 points (1.27 per cent) to a preliminary close at 911.95.
'Given the broad declines registered during the past two sessions, it might appear that bullish participants are becoming less willing to contest sellers' efforts,' Briefing.com analysts said in a client note.
'However, trading volume remains exceptionally low, suggesting that there isn't much conviction behind the stock market's latest moves,' they added. -- AFP
