STI closes 4.99% higher

SINGAPORE shares closed higher with the benchmark Straits Times Index up 89.55 points, or 4.99 per cent, at 1,883.75.

Around 1.64 billion shares exchanged hands.

Gainers beat losers 422 to 125.
