LOS ANGELES - AMERICAN pop singer Katy Perry has been branded a "f------ little s---" by a singer/songwriter who launched a foul-mouthed tirade against her, said media reports on Thursday.

According to The Daily Telegraph, singer/songwriter Jill Sobule blasted Perry because she used the same title as her song, I Kissed A Girl.

Sobule, 44, released a track called I Kissed A Girl in 1995, which topped out at No 67 on the US Billboard charts and drove her album Heatseekers to No 11, reported The Daily Telegraphy.

Perry's track of the same name, released in 2008, became a major worldwide hit. Along with the US, it has topped the charts in more than 30 countries, including Australia, Canada, Ireland and the United Kingdom. The tune also earned Perry a nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance at the 2009 Grammy Awards.

Sobule appears to be jealous that Katy, 24, is far more talented and successful than herself.

'As a musician I have always refrained from criticising another artist,' Sobule told The Rumpus. 'I was, 'Well, good for her.' In truth, she wrote it with a team of professional writers and was signed by the very same guy that signed me in 1995.

'I have not mentioned that in interviews as I don't want to sound bitter or petty, because that's not me. Okay, maybe, if I really think about it, there were a few jealous and pissed off moments.

'So here goes, for the first time in an interview... F--- you Katy Perry, you f------ stupid, maybe 'not good for the gays', title-thieving, haven't-heard-much-else-so-not-quite-sure-if-you're-talented, f------ little s---.'

Sobule said she received 'tonnes of inquiries' after Perry released her hit single. "Some folks were angry and wondered why she took my title and made it into this kind of 'girls gone wild' thing," she said.

'Others, including my mother, were excited because they thought I would somehow make some money out of it. Unfortunately you can't copyright a title... bummer.'
