LONDON - BRITISH singing star Susan Boyle was back on stage on Friday for the first time since being rushed to a London clinic suffering from exhaustion two weeks ago.

Boyle, the 48-year-old church volunteer whose frumpy appearance hides a soaring voice, appeared on the first night of a tour featuring contestants from the Britain's Got Talent show in Birmingham, central England.

It was Boyle's failure to win the show which apparently triggered her admission to London's exclusive Priory clinic for five days from May 31.

She was hot favourite to win but came second amid reports of erratic backstage behaviour and was admitted the day after the grand final.

During Friday's show, Boyle sang the two show tunes which she performed on Britain's Got Talent - I Dreamed A Dream from Les Miserables and Memory from Cats.

She blew a kiss to screaming fans as she performed. There had been doubts in the run-up to the show whether she would be able to perform.

A clip of her singing I Dreamed A Dream is now reportedly one of the most watched ever on Internet video sharing website YouTube, in a sign of Boyle's global popularity. -- AFP
