IVY Ho is a poet of the ambiguous, elusive moments in an individual's emotional history.
The 51-year-old Hong Konger is a rare screenwriting brand name in Chinese cinema and her best-known story, Comrades: Almost A Love Story, as its title suggests, is not quite a romance.
Instead, the 1996 film traces the transient liaison of two Chinese migrants, played by Maggie Cheung and Leon Lai, who meet in Hong Kong on their way to other relationships and countries.
Now, for her directorial debut, Ho has crafted a not-quite office romance, Claustrophobia.
Karena Lam and Ekin Cheng play a marketing executive and her married boss, who spend most of the film in small spaces such as their workplace or his car.
They might or might not be having an affair. A straight love story this certainly is not.
