MONTREAL - ACTRESS Natasha Richardson was in a Montreal hospital on Tuesday after suffering a serious head injury in a skiing accident, People magazine reported.

Richardson, 45, was rushed to a hospital near the Mont Tremblant ski area following Monday's afternoon's accident before being transferred to Montreal, the US celebrity magazine reported.

British-born Richardson is the wife of Irish actor Liam Neeson, 56, and the daughter of British stage and screen actress Vanessa Redgrave, 72.

'We know that she has had an accident but we really do not know any more details,' Kika Markham, Richard's aunt, told broadcaster BBC. 'We are very concerned.'

The website IrishCentral.com, which first broke the story, quoted a hospital insider as saying that Richardson had suffered a traumatic brain injury.

Neeson, who was in Toronto on a movie set, flew out to be next to his wife, a publicist for the film Chloe told local media.

Richardson has been married to Neeson since 1994 and they have two sons.

Richardson won a Tony award in 1998 for her role in the musical Cabaret.

She also appeared in the films The Parent Trap, Maid in Manhattan and Evening. -- AFP
