Beyonce, who played James in the recent film 'Cadillac Records', said she was honored to be performing for the first family at Tuesday's inauguration festivities in Washington.

'I am so honoured that I will be performing for President Obama and the First Lady,' said the Grammy-winner in a statement to Entertainment Tonight.

'To sing 'At Last' while they have their first dance is a dream come true. I could not be more honoured and excited that they have asked me to be part of this moment in history.'

The 27-year-old singer will sing for the Obamas at the Neighborhood Ball, one of 10 official balls scheduled for inauguration night.

Written in 1941 by Mack Gordon and Harry Warren, 'At Last' first became a hit for Glenn Miller and his orchestra and was covered by Nat King Cole before being adopted as James's signature song in 1960. -- AFP
