TAIPEI - HEFTY period epic The Warlords and Taiwan's big box-office smash, Cape No. 7, are leading the Golden Horse race this year.
In nominations announced on Thursday, The Warlords secured 12 nods, including Best Feature Film, Best Director for Peter Chan and Best Leading Actor for Jet Li, said reports.
As expected, the runaway hit Cape No. 7 made a respectable showing with nine nominations, including Best Feature Film, Best Director for Wei Te-sheng and two Best New Performer nods for Chie Tanaka and Johnny Lin.
The John Woo epic Red Cliff was shut out of most of the major categories, however, said Variety Asia news website. It garnered only four nominations including Best Supporting Actor for Hu Jun and Best Visual Effects.
But Singapore's Jack Neo comedy Money No Enough 2 got a nod for a major prize: Best Supporting Actress for Malaysian Lai Meng. Singaporean Ricky Ho also garnered a Best Original Film Score nomination for the drama 12 Lotus.
