JYOYUU (JAPANESE FILM FESTIVAL 2008)

This 10-day Japanese Film Festival explores femininity in Japanese cinema, paying tribute to heroines, antogonists and muses in the silver screen. Today, catch Actress directed by Kon Ichikawa. This film follows the career of a great actress Tanaka, from her first role at 16 to her death in 1977 which coincides with the Golden Age of Japanese cinema. It has English and Japanese subtitles.

GORILLA THEATRE

Go bananas. This no-holds-barred improvisational theatre by The Loose Moose Theatre Company of Canada is created by members of the audience taking turns to direct scenes. RESERVOIR

Discover the Syonan Jinja, a Shinto shrine, built during the Japanese Occupation in the MacRitchie Reservoir. A creative team from Singapore and Japan, led by Singapore director Choy Ka Fai, have re-created and re-imagined it as a sacred site in a tapestry of images, sound and movement. Written by local playwright Ng Yi-Sheng and presented by TheatreWorks.
