POLICE are seeking a driver who ran over a fallen motorcyclist during the weekend, leaving the man in a coma. He died two days later.
The hit-and-run incident took place on Saturday at about 9.20pm on the Seletar Expressway.
Mr Heng Chang Yeow, 50, was on his way home when his motorcycle skidded along the highway. He was flung onto the right lane and run over by a passing car that did not stop, said police.
The assistant engineer suffered injuries to his head, face and chest and was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where he remained in a coma for two days.
He died yesterday morning.
Speaking to The Straits Times at his wake, Mr Heng's family said they were looking for information about the fatal crash.
'The first question that came to mind was: How did he skid in the first place? Did he get knocked before that?' said his brother, Mr King Chang Heng, 40.
Mr Heng lived in a Compassvale flat with his travel consultant wife, Madam Suryani L.D., and their 12-year-old daughter.
Madam Suryani, 42, said she was not looking to pin the blame on anyone.
'If possible, I would like the driver to come forward and pay his respects. I don't blame him,' she said.
News of the accident came as a shock to her.
'His friend once told me that he rode slowly and would never speed, so I didn't think things would turn out so bad,' she said.
On the day of the accident, Mr Heng had gone to Johor Baru, as he always did on Saturdays. He was on his way home when the accident happened.
Madam Suryani is originally from Kalimantan, Indonesia. She met her husband 15 years ago when she was working in a travel agency in Singapore. She described her husband as a doting father who loved spending time with his daughter.
'He would take her to the Science Centre and historical places of interest,' she said.
Mr Heng's 85-year-old mother, Madam Tay Siew Lang, remembers him as a devoted son.
'He was very filial,' she said, before breaking down in tears.
Anyone with information about the accident should contact the police on 1800-255-0000.
