A WOMAN motorist was charged on Wednesday with causing the death of an elderly pedestrian and injuring his newly-wed wife.

Tan Joo Sing, 58, was driving a van at the driveway carpark of Balam Road, off Circuit Road, on March 18 when she allegedly caused the death of Mr Choong Kang Leung, 76, by failing to keep a proper lookout while turning right.

She is also accused of causing grievous hurt to the other pedestrian, Madam Zheng Zongpin, 52, a China national, who was crossing the driveway at about 9.13pm that day.

Her bail was extended.

She will appear in court again on Nov 4.

If convicted of causing death by doing a negligent or rash act, she can be jailed for up to two years and/or fined.

The penalty for the other charge is up to two years' jail and/or a fine of up to $1,000.
