THE 10,000-strong Federation of Tan Clan Associations has thrown its weight behind former deputy prime minister Dr Tony Tan in his bid for the presidency.
Speaking at a meeting on Sunday afternoon in the Lam Soon clan building on Upper Paya Lebar Road, Tan federation secretary-general Tan Lian Ker said Dr Tan's professional assistance and contributions as honorary adviser to the Tan federation since 2006 have enhanced the image of the federation and its members.

SPEAKING at a forum on Friday, Law Minister K Shanmugam said that the president 'can speak on issues only as authorised by the Cabinet; and he must follow the advice of the Cabinet in the discharge of his duties'. Mr Shanmugam cited Article 21(1) of the Constitution which says the president shall 'act in accordance with the advice of the Cabinet or of a Minister acting under the general authority of the Cabinet'.
