BEIJING - CHINA confirmed that seven more people have tested positive for swine flu, bringing the total number of cases on the mainland to 58, including two new local infections.

The Health Ministry said late on Wednesday three cases were found in eastern Fujian province while the other four turned up in Guangdong province, in China's south.

Most of the cases have been travelers arriving from swine flu affected regions, but of the new ones in Fujian, two were infected while in China.

They were a 4-year-old girl in the provincial capital Fuzhou infected after meeting her three sisters from the United States, who were diagnosed with swine flu earlier this week, and a 46-year-old Chinese man who traveled and dined with a friend from New York.

Chinese authorities have been enforcing quarantines and temperature checks at airports throughout the country.

The Chinese-ruled territory of Hong Kong has confirmed 27 cases.

The World Health Organization says the disease has reached 66 countries and infected more than 19,000 people, causing 117 deaths. -- AP
