BEIJING - CHINA'S state news agency says a magnitude 5 earthquake has struck a remote northwestern region.
The official Xinhua News Agency says the quake hit Qapal County in Xinjiang on Sunday morning. It says the quake struck about 435 miles west (700 kilometres) of the regional capital Urumqi.
The US Geological Survey says the quake had a magnitude of 5.3.
No casualties were immediately reported in the sparsely populated area. -- AP
