SEOUL - AN OFFICIAL says a suspicious white powder sent to the US Embassy in the South Korean capital has been found to be harmless.
The embassy in Seoul received a package containing the white powder earlier this week.
Mr Hwang Hyun-soon of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Friday that tests showed the powder was starch.
The FBI said last week that eight U.S. embassies in Europe received letters containing a white powder in what the agency called a hoax. It said governors in more than 40 US states had received similar letters recently.
Officials in some of the states said the powder was flour, corn starch or some other harmless food substance. -- AP
