NEW DELHI - INDIA will on Wednesday present visiting US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice with evidence of a Pakistan link to last week's Islamic militant attacks on Mumbai, a government source told AFP.

'We will put on the table information so far gathered. We plan to share transcripts of satellite phone conversations that link the terrorists to their Pakistani handlers,' the senior official said on condition he not be named.

'We have evidence of numbers recovered from phones (that show) where the calls came from or were made to,' he added.

The Press Trust of India news agency also reported that officials here will present to Rice 'evidence, including intercepts like records of satellite phones used by the terrorists.'

Indian officials have said the Mumbai attackers were all from Pakistan, and suspicion has focused on Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, a group fighting against Indian control of disputed Kashmir.

The Mumbai attacks killed 188 people, including 22 foreigners, and left close to 300 others wounded.

Ms Rice landed in New Delhi earlier on Wednesday for a visit to show solidarity and help reduce tensions between India and nuclear rival Pakistan.

A State Department official said Ms Rice would pressure the two US allies - who have fought three wars since their 1947 independence from British rule - to cooperate in combating terrorism. -- AFP
