Man punished for explosion
BEIJING - A MAN in central China was sentenced to death for causing an explosion that injured 18 people because he was angry over the demolition of an illegal structure he owned, state media said on Saturday.

Tian Kaiyou lit two cooking gas bottles at the beginning of Jul and drove them into a local government office in Zhangjiajie in Hunan province, the official Xinhua news agency reported.

A local court in Changsha, the capital of Hunan, found Tian guilty of the blast, injuring people and jeopardising public security and property, according to Xinhua.

Three of the 18 were seriously injured and the explosion also caused more than 260,000 yuan (S$56,304) worth of damage, the news agency said. -- AFP
